7. The harder the workout, the better the result.
Some athletes (and coaches) have this mentality that if a workout doesn’t reduce them to complete exhaustion and/or make them vomit, it wasn’t an effective workout. I can tell you that those who have this mentality probably see many injuries and frustrating performances. The purpose of a workout is to stimulate an adaptation by the body. If the body is forced to do too much work in a given time period, it will break down. The skill in coaching is to stimulate the adaptation in the body without reaching a point of diminishing returns.

This could be the theme for 'The Biggest Looser'. Those people loose (a lot of) weight, but it's painful to watch.
You have to wonder when they get upset about 'only' loosing 4 lbs in a week.
When you are extemely obese as in the people on this show, one can merely just breathe hard and sort of watch their portions and lose amounts of weight in one week that normal size people have a hard time to lose. 5-10 lbs.
I must be normal size then. Because that last 10 lbs is a bitch to lose! Also..have you seen on the show they now incorporate a lot of crossfit exercises and methods. Those people really cry and puke when they do that..it makes me feel better that is just not me crying and puking when I do them!
